Miss Pettigrew is a down and out middle-aged governess in roaring-twenties London when her employment agency gives her the wrong address for a job interview. Expecting a mother and her unruly children at the door, she is instead surprised to find the glamorous nightclub singer Delysia LaFosse frantically running around in her dressing gown. Immediately Miss Pettigrew is swept up into a life of men, cocktail parties, and nightclubs in which she will experience unknown pleasures and discover an innate resourcefulness within her that will save the day.

After adoring the movie, I was delighted to discover that this Cinderella story was a book first. And although the film is an overall faithful adaptation of the book in story and feel, the book is better. A fast-paced, witty, and charming read, I fell in love with Miss Pettigrew. What a beloved confidante and mentor she makes.
