Book Haul (2)

For review:

Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan

Yes! *fist pump* Thank you, Netgalley! The only downside is that there was no Kindle option, and since I don’t have a Nook, I can only read this with Adobe Digital Editions on my laptop. Boo. :( Does anyone know if there’s a way to remedy this? From what I’ve read it looks like it’s impossible to convert an .acsm file into a .mobi or .epub.

Bought:

Catch of the Day by Kristan Higgins

A $.99 Kindle steal which I devoured in one night.

Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore

Finally! It is with trepidation that I will be picking this up.

Hey Holly! Great books:) I’ve been curious about Sarah Rees Brennan for a while now but I’ve yet to pick up her other series. And a Kristan Higgins book for 99c? What a steal. I went to see Kristin Cashore last week and I’m posting the recap with some videos tomorrow. You could read along with her at two different parts if you feel like it:) Happy reading!

Thanks Flannery! You’ve got to try The Demon’s Lexicon sometime – I loved it. I will look out for the KC videos. They sound awesome. :)

Woohoo, love that I’ve read the two books in your post and I have a copy of the other one. I’ve been putting off reading Unspoken because it doesn’t have a Kindle edition – like you said, no choice but to read it in front of the computer. :( Hey, let me know if you want to do a readalong of that. We can do it slowly so we don’t strain our eyes.

I just have to say (in reference to your trepidation comment) that I think the hype/reviewer angst does us a disservice a lot of the time. And I think it certainly seems to have in the case of BITTERBLUE. I read it all and I want to say, “Just READ it, people.” Because, in the end, no one else’s reaction is going to determine (or should have any bearing on) yours. Don’t let it mar your experience of the book. It’s not real.

And I am, of course, dying to read your review of CATCH OF THE DAY. :-)

Aww thanks, Ange! So true. I am a wuss and let these things get to me. That’s what I’m doing – reading it for myself and letting the cards fall where they may.

I am excited to write it!

I am really looking forward to your thoughts on BITTERBLUE!

Re the Netgalley file – if you’re reading using ADE, you’ve an epub file (the .acsm file is only a licence, IIRC). The epub file should be in My Digital Editions folder (or at least that is where it is on my PC). You can technically convert epub to mobi for the Kindle, but will involve some de-DRMing – fairly straightforward if you do want to do so… let me know if you need help.

I knew the .acsm file was not the actual book but I didn’t know how to get to that file. I’ve de-DRMed before so I can do that. Thanks for the tip! If I run into any problems I will definitely call on you. :)

Unspoken! I share your disappointment on the lack of Kindle option, but luckily I have the option to read on a tablet instead. Still not optimal, but better than a computer. Good luck attempting to make it work!

I just picked up Bitterblue from the library and was so surprised at how big a book it is. It was one of my most anticipated reads of this year so I am looking forward to starting it!
