My haul of bookish gifts wasn’t huge this year but what I lacked in quantity I made up in quality:
Reading Women, a collection of portraits of women reading, is out-of-print so I was thrilled to receive a copy from my Äiti along with a matching calendar. My sister also thoughtfully gifted me Bakerella’s Cake Pops
, which I’ve had on my wish list for quite some time.
These weren’t Christmas gifts per se but they happened to show up in the mail this past week unexpectedly, and I’m not complaining (though I am sad that B&N mistakenly shipped some of The Fault in Our Stars preorders early):
Thanks to Wendy Darling for the Aussie YA novel Fury by Shirley Marr, which is touring right now. Speaking of surprise gifts, this is a pretty great one:
Hopefully I can get to it soon. Anyone who hasn’t downloaded it yet you’ve got -*checking calendar*-11 days left to download the free version, so what are you waiting for?
What were your favorite holiday gifts this year?

I’m glad FURY made it there safely, Holly–hope you enjoy! And PS, CakePops is awesome too.
I have enjoyed it! Finished it, and am already planning to make New Years Eve cake pops.
I’m still blown away by the fact that you already have (and read too, right?) The Fault in Our Stars! No fair…though I’m glad I didn’t have that decision to make… I hear many people that got it early pledged not to read it until Jan. 10. How hard would that be?!?
Mine’s coming from Amazon, so we’ll see if I even get it by the 10th. Here’s hoping.
I know! I’m sorry. I think I should feel more terrible for reading it already, but my lips are sealed, so that’s all that matters right? Fingers crossed for you.
I Googled Äiti and it’s the German word for mom? LOL not sure if that’s correct too. Your post made me look back on the gifts that I received this year and I realized that I didn’t get any books. And I haven’t bought a book for myself this December although I did buy several to give as gifts to friends.
Reading Women is a thoughtful gift and I love that it came with a calendar version. Can’t wait to see what you think of both The Fault In Our Stars (which I’m planning to just buy in local bookstores because I didn’t get to pre-order) and Fury.
Commenting again to clarify that I didn’t get any books from relatives and friends because I did get a copy of Forever from Scholastic Philippines.
Those are nice gifts. I had not heard of Reading Women, but it sounds lovely.
I got 4 books from my brother – his gift is always to take me to Bookman’s and let me buy what I want. Bought me: Trickster’s Choice by Tamora Pierce (read it but wanted my own copy), Gentleman Takes a Chance by Sarah Hoyt (urban fantasy – read the first book last year), The Goblin Wood by Hilari Bell (fantasy), and Amazon Ink by Lori Devoti (UF). I also found a copy of The Book of A Thousand Days by Shannon Hale that I bought myself this trip and have been reading.
Oh what a fun gift tradition! I really hope you’re liking A THOUSAND DAYS. It’s my next favorite Shannon Hale after Goose Girl.
