I think Robin McKinley’s Spindle’s End is my favorite YA fairy tale retelling. Though I have so many favorites, it’s hard to write just ONE…

    Thanks for offering this giveaway!

  2. Justine says:

I can never pass up a Cinderella retelling. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine currently tops my list, but I haven’t read Cinder yet. :)

    Thank you for the giveaway!

  3. Rachel says:

I love retellings of Beauty and the Beast, and “Beast” by Donna Jo Napoli, is probably my favorite– it’s set in Persia, so it really stands out among the rest.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  4. janicu says:

Oh I have been meaning to enter this and then I think: ok favorite retelling. I have to think about it. And I walk off!

I think I am going to go with Robin McKinley’s ROSE DAUGHTER.

  5. Cameron Y. says:

Robin McKinley’s Spindle’s End and Rose Daughter are probably about the only YA retellings I’ve ever read and enjoyed. I’m sure there’s got to be more, but I honestly can’t think of anything at this moment. Most of the others are adult retellings.

  9. Suz Reads says:

  10. Hey Hol, I have two: Zel and Ella Enchanted. I loved Zel because I really felt that the original tale was sad and a little boring, and I liked the authors changes. I loved Ella Enchanted and LOVED finally having an explanation as to why Cinderella was so nice and did everything people asked her to do!

I also enjoyed laughing with you at Beauty and the Beast: A Latter Day Tale…

    Thanks!

    • Jessica Hutchison says:

Heather’s “Latter Day Tale” made me laugh. I’d have to go with Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. I read it on a trip to Disneyland with the fam and it only added to the magic. Although I will say, Beastly as an audiobook was pretty entertaining. Literally laughed out loud at the reader imitating frogs and girls and beastly roars. I’ll have to come check out your blog more often (and update my own)!

  11. Krysta N. says:

I rather liked The Thirteenth Princess by Diane Zahler (12 dancing princesses retelling)…Sunlight and Shadow by Cameron Dokey (The Magic Flute retelling) was also good – I have yet to find a retelling of Cinderella that I absolutely love. I’m intrigued by the sci-fi premise of Cinder.

  12. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. Lord of the Wolfyn part of the Royal House of Shadows series (though its adult themed) was pretty good too. It incorporated Little Red Riding Hood into the story.
