Want Books: The Returning and Miscellanea

Want Books? is a weekly meme hosted at Chachic’s Book Nook and features released books that you want but you can’t have for some reason. It can be because it’s not available in your country, in your library or you don’t have the money for it right now.

The Returning by Christine Hinwood is a YA fantasy/historical fiction novel I’ve been curious about for awhile now. Not really because of the premise – no offense, premise – but because of the gorgeous cover and the front cover blurb, which is by *squee* Megan Whalen Turner, who says “A beautiful representation of love and loyalty in the aftermath of war.” Cool, huh? And of course what I found out over at Chachic‘s from Nomes is that it also comes highly recommended by Melina Marchetta as one of her top reads of 2010. If you’re a fan of either or both of these authors, it’s hard to resist those recommendations. I haven’t found it in any of my local libraries and I’m not sure I should buy it because I’ve bought a few books recently and I have so many autobuys/anticipated books coming up in May but we’ll see. Since I’m on that subject I’d thought I would mention the May books I’m excited about:

May Autobuys: The Demon’s Surrender by Sarah Rees Brennan (1st), A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness (UK release 2nd), Nightspell by Leah Cypess (31st), and Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews (31st).

May Radar Books: Last Little Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson (10th) and Beauty Queens by Libba Bray (24th).

Bytheway, most of these are on my book release calendar on the right sidebar. Does anyone ever look at that? I’m curious so let me know.

What books are you looking forward to come May (or the end of this month)?

Yay, you picked The Returning too! That was my Want Books post a couple of weeks ago and I already ordered the book from Book Depository. Now I just have to wait for a month or so before I could read it. :P

I’m planning to buy all of the books in your auto-buy list except for the Patrick Ness one because I still haven’t read his books.

Oh hey, that calendar is pretty nifty. I didn’t notice it until you pointed it out though.

Thanks Chachic! May is a good book release month, isn’t it? :) I do hope you try Patrick Ness sometime! His Chaos Walking trilogy is really stand out dystopian YA.

i haven’t read this either but i’m thinking i really should.

the melina marchetta recommendation does a lot for me :D

  3. Angie says:

Ooh, there’s so many to look forward to in May! In addition to the ones you list, I am really looking forward to DEAD RECKONING, I’LL BE THERE, FLAWLESS, CHAIN REACTION, and NIGHTSPELL.

  4. Michelle M says:

I too want MAGIC SLAYS, and THE DEMONS SURRENDER. But I’m ashamed to say I didn’t even know Patrick Ness was coming out with a new book. Must look into that one.

    • Holly says:

A Monster Calls doesn’t come out in the US until September. It’s based on an idea the author Siobhan Dowdhad before she died. I ordered it from Book Depository.

  5. Chelle says:

I have this one at home, but haven’t picked it up yet. (Too many other titles crowding for attention!) Oh, and I absolutely canNOT wait for MAGIC SLAYS! I’m going crazy over here. :)

  6. Alison says:

Recommended by Melina Marchetta? I’m going to look at it more right now just b/c of that.
