Since it’s the last day of the year (and I’ve enjoyed seeing Persnickety Snark’s and all the other best-of lists that have been circulating around the blogosphere all month), I’d thought I’d post my favorite reads of 2010. I selected these from the books I read that were new-to-me this year, not just those that were published this year. Appropriately enough nearly all of titles received 5-stars on Goodreads and half of them were published in 2010. Without further ado, here they are in sequential order from January through December:
Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews (January)
A Conspiracy of Kings by Megan Whalen Turner (April)
Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness (June)
Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James (June)
Honey, Baby, Sweetheart by Deb Caletti (July)
Archangel by Sharon Shinn (August)
Jane by April Lindner (August)
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (August)
Emotional Geology by Linda Gillard (September)
Dark Road to Darjeeling by Deanna Raybourn (September)
And since I couldn’t choose between all the Marillier I’ve read this year for the top ten, I’m giving my Favorite Series/Honorable Mention of 2010 to The Bridei Chronicles by Juliet Marillier, because the entire trilogy was so strong.
What reads of 2010 stand out the most to you? Feel free to link to your own lists in the comments, I’d love to check them out.

I’ve only read 3 of the books you listed here, but I have the others on my wish list. I love that the new year means more chances to read the books that other people thought were great in the last year. Of course that never helps the TBR, but I have been long resigned to the fact that it will grow and grow and grow.
And I’ve rambled.
Happy new year Holly! More good books to you on the coming year.
Lol it’s true Tina. Healthier to have the TBR always growing.
Happy New Year!
Glad to see I’ve read most of the books in your list.
There are only three that I haven’t read – Patrick Ness, Linda Gillard and Deanna Raybourn – and I plan to pick them up this year. I have the first Bridei book already. I’m thinking maybe I should have the other two before I start on it because I have a feeling it will reel me in. I’m thinking of posting the best books that I’ve read this year since everyone else is doing it but mine will definitely be more than ten.
Happy New Year, Holly!
This is good, Chachic. Verrry good.
Can’t wait to see what you think of all of them. Hope you had a good holiday.
It’s an honour to be mentioned in your round-up of the year. Thanks, Holly.
Happy New Year to you!
Thanks for stopping by, Linda!
GREAT list, Holly. The Bridei Chronicles totally deserve the love. I <3 Faolan so. very. much.
Thanks go to you Angie, since you’re the reason I’ve read most of these.
The Bridei Chronicles do need more attention.
Love this list! We have many in common, too.
One of these days I will get around to The Bridei Chronicles. I love Marillier’s other work (and can’t wait for her new series!)
Oh yes Chelle, you must! The whole trilogy is so well written. I am excited for the Shadowfell series though the only Marillier I haven’t loved was WILDWOOD DANCING.
