A Monster Calls cover + Tube posters

Isn’t it perfectly ominous and frightening? This is a sneak peak of Patrick Ness’ upcoming book A Monster Calls from his blog. Ness wrote this using the final idea of UK author Siobhan Dowd who died of cancer in 2007. I’ve never read anything by Dowd – can anyone recommend one of her titles? I think she’s more junior than YA and writes mystery novels. I’ve always been drawn to the urban London cover of The London Eye Mystery however:

After the brilliant, amazing, not-enough-superlatives Chaos Walking trilogy, I personally can’t wait to read anything Ness writes. :) A Monster Calls is out in hardcover May 2011 in the UK and September 2011 in the US.

And because I can’t resist this photo, the Monsters of Men tube poster, which is just making me want to go shopping on Oxford Circus. Topshop or H&M anyone?

This is the first I’ve heard of A Monster Calls. I can’t wait to check out. Hey, you should have gotten a close up of the book trailer. I don’t get to see many (any) book trailers so I was wondering how it’s done. Though, I do like your picture! Oxford Circus is a mall? Cool name!

A book trailer for A Monster Calls? It wasn’t on Ness’ site. You should watch Maggie Stiefvater’s book trailers. She makes them herself and always includes a “making of” post to go with them. Oxford Circus is the name of a street I believe which has tons of shops on it. Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus – English names are the best. :)

Whoops! I meant book poster. Book poster. Ack! Oxford Circus is a street? So no elephants, I guess?

Have you seen Simone Elkeles book trailers? I like them because they are beyond cheesy!

        • Holly says:

Lol no prob. I wish there was a close up of the poster. That was the only image on Ness’ blog. I don’t think I’ve seen Simone Ekeles trailers. Most end up being cheesy I think. ;)

The cover for A Monster Calls is downright creepy! Is it a horror book? I stay away from anything scary because I’m a wimp. :P But I love the tube poster! Book ads are awesome.

I love the name “Oxford Circus”, sounds so different from places around here. Hey, I love Topshop! But I only buy stuff there on sale because the items are expensive. Whenever I look at a price tag, I think of it terms of book prices (e.g. “This dress costs 6 paperbacks. Is it really worth that much?”) Forever21 is a lot cheaper. Also, I keep hoping than H&M will open branches here.

    • Holly says:

Lol I don’t think so. The goodreads summary made it out to be more of a mystery coming of age story with monsters. Might not be your thing though. :)

Is there a Topshop in the Philippines? That’s a way to make me supremely jealous. It is expensive though, you’re right. I didn’t buy much not on sale when I lived there. If my area ever got an H&M I would die. I like F21 but sometimes I want a little better quality.

I will definitely read the Chaos Walking Trilogy before I decide to read Ness’ other books so it doesn’t really matter what A Monster Calls is about. LOL.

Yes, we have Topshop over here! Hmm don’t you have Topshop in the States? When I was in Southern California last year, my cousins kept making fun of me because I’d buy something whenever I went inside F21. The first F21 store in the country just opened a couple of months ago. But yes, you’re right, the quality isn’t that great compared with other clothing stores.

          Good idea. Please do.

There’s only one Topshop and it opened in New York only within the last year or so. *green with envy*

A new Ness book? Oh wow, that will definitely go to my wish list now. I don’t care if it’s scary, it’s Patrick Ness! :)

I think I would squeal in delight if I saw that poster in person. I’m shallow that way — I get excited over really small things. It’s like when I see someone I don’t know reading a book I liked. I want to approach them and tell them, “That’s a really good book, yay for reading it!” Somehow, I want to tell the man standing beside the poster and convince him to buy the books promoted by the poster behind him. ^^

    • Holly says:

I thought you’d like that. Definitely not shallow. I would probably jump up and down and clap with delight like the biggest old nerd if I saw that poster in person, too. :)
