Want Books: Beguilement

Want Books? is a weekly meme hosted at Chachic’s Book Nook and features released books that you want but you can’t have for some reason. It can be because it’s not available in your country, in your library or you don’t have the money for it right now.

I’m not sure if Beguilement by Lois McMaster Bujold really qualifies since it’s readily available at my library but I WANT IT NOW. The desperation in my desire made me realize that it has just been too long since I’ve read a good ole fashioned fantasy novel. I keep telling myself I don’t have time for it now since I have several books that need to be reviewed right now, but maybe I’ll slack off and go pick it up.

Here’s the publisher summary if you’re interested:

Troubled young Fawn Bluefield seeks a life beyond her family’s farm. But en route to the city, she encounters a patrol of Lakewalkers, nomadic soldier-sorcerers from the northern woodlands. Feared necromancers armed with mysterious knives made of human bone, they wage a secret, ongoing war against the scourge of the “malices”, immortal entities that draw the life out of their victims, enslaving human and animal alike.

It is Dag – a Lakewalker patroller weighed down by past sorrows and onerous present responsibilities – who must come to Fawn’s aid when she is taken captive by a malice. They prevail at a devastating cost – unexpectedly binding their fates as they embark upon a remarkable journey into danger and delight, prejudice and partnership… and perhaps even love.

What book(s) are you seriously crushing/want-to-put-your-life-on-hold-for at the moment?

I simply love this book. It was my first Bujold and I think you’d quite like it.

I know! It’s because of yours and Chachic’s recommendations that I don’t want to wait. That two copies are sitting lonely on the library shelf doesn’t help either

  2. Chachic says:

Ooooh this is a good one! I hope you get to borrow the library copy soon because I’d love to know what you think of this book. Like you, I picked it up because I was craving for some old school fantasy because I was reading too much YA at that time.

Also, need I remind you of the one-handed awesomeness? :P
