Book Art: Story Sculpting

The artist discovery of the past week is London-based artist Su Blackwell, who often takes old fairy tale collections or classic books and sculpts them into 3D dioramas inspired by the stories themselves.

A Mad Tea Party

Through the Looking Glass

Out of Narnia

The Secret Garden

Peter Pan

The Wild Swans

Believe it or not some of these are still up for sale. For something a little more affordable, note cards of some of her works are available online here.

There is also currently an exhibition of her book/paper sculpting called “Remnants” at the Bronte Parsonage Museum in which she’s created site and exhibition-specific book dioramas of the Brontes and the imaginary world they created in their stories. Boy I would love to see this. If you live in or near Yorkshire visit it for me. :)

Which is your favorite?

Holly, I am loving your Book Art feature. I can’t get over how nice these sculptures are! My favorite in the ones that you posted is Out of Narnia and in her website, I like Wild Flowers and Twelve Dancing Princesses.
