Versatile Blogger & 7 Things About Me

Hooray! Jess of The Tales Compendium has awarded me the Versatile Blogger award.  Both Jess and I are relatively new bloggers and I’m happy that we’ve both stayed followers of each other since we began and met. Thank you, Jess! One of the rules of this award is sharing seven things about yourself.  Hopefully I can make these at least semi-interesting.

#1 As some of you know I lived in central London for a year while I attended graduate school. The experience of that year is up there with my wedding day and the birth of my son. Not only was I able to see everything possible you could ever want to see in London (sometimes twice, thrice, or multiple times), but I got to travel the continent. DH is half-Finnish and lived there for two years. After he showed me around the country for two weeks, both London and Finland will always feel like home to me. Now that the most interesting thing about me has been shared…

#2 When my parents came over to visit me we were able to see a Wimbledon match on Centre Court, which was amazing.  I’m never been a huge sports player or fan but I grew up playing and watching tennis and now that I’m a SAHM I’m can’t get enough of grand slam tennis tournaments. Let’s just say I watch a lot of TV four times a year. Maybe that’s not so bad?

#3 I grew up in a dry, hot climate and I’m an unashamed sun worshiper. Even when I’m uncomfortably hot and sweaty and there’s no pool, I vainly love working on my suntan. Scorching summers are my favorite.

#4 Weirdly enough I grew up among mountains and I’d much rather be hiking on a mountain than swimming at a beach. I didn’t realize this until a couple of years ago when during a Reiki treatment I was told to imagine I’m at home in nature – on a beach – and since it wasn’t working I imagined myself on a mountain instead.  I suppose I’ve gone hiking and camping enough to realize that mountains are where I feel most cozy and at peace with the world. When I drove through the alps of Lucerne, Switzerland I about died, I felt so at home in that kind of beauty.

#5 I want to be a lot of things when I grow up. Art historian, museum curator, librarian, interior designer, and graphic designer. I also want to be a yoga instructor. I once aspired to be a runway model (and could’ve been) and a classical pianist. So serious I was about the latter that at one time I studied and practiced 3+ hours a day. That saw an end to that dream. More than anything though I want my very own piano someday and to be a dancer in my next life. And to be much more intelligent. :)

#6 My absolute favorite thing to do is not reading or spending time with my family.  It’s having an intimate, one-on-one conversation with a true friend, which can include family. The more hours the better.

#7 I have a BB pellet permanently lodged in my behind. Wait!? No, that’s my sister. ;) (Wish I had a cool story like that.)  I used to look anorexic which was partly a cause of me being painfully shy. Hopefully neither of those things about me are true anymore.

  1. Emily says:

wow thanks! we are total on the same page regarding point 3) but although I am italian (born and raised in Milan, not faraway from stunning mountains) I would always enjoy swimming more than hiking

  2. Angie says:

You totally could have been a runway model. Still could, actually. :)

  3. Holly says:

Emily, you’re welcome. You’re lucking to be so close to those mountains. :) And I know, weird. Most people don’t like to hike.

Angie, I took runway classes when I was 18 – still remember all the walks and turns. I got a few jobs but I turned them down because they were either on Sundays or I was required to wear whatever they wanted. And the agency said Utah would be better. :/

  4. Chachic says:

Holly! I can’t believe you could’ve been a runway model. How tall are you? I’m five foot flat so I’ll probably look like a midget when I stand next to you. Back in early college, I was really really thin and now I joke around that I looked anorexic.

I’ve always lived in a humid and hot climate and I know I usually complain that it’s so hot during summer but I still think I’m better off here than in cold climates. I don’t think I could survive winters in really cold areas. I’ve never even seen snow! :P

  5. Holly says:

Chachic, lol. Not super tall. About 5’8.5″ (1.73 m). Tall and skinny enough (well, used to be). That’s awesome you haven’t ever seen snow. We have great winters here with tons of it. I’d love to be with you the first time you see it!

  6. OMG This is so very sweet of you. Thank you thank you thank you.

I am SO with you on number 6 :)

Thank you so much for visiting Tales of Whimsy :)

  7. Kika says:

How sweet are you? thank you so much Holly! and oh my goodness with the classical piano thing, my sister just graduated with her masters in piano performance and I tell you that major is serious stuff!!! thank you so much again for the award, happy reading :D

  8. Holly says:

Kika, you’re very welcome. Yep, you know it’s not for you when it’s making you hate the piano. And they said they expect 4-6 hours of practice per day once your in the major! I admire your sister and would love to hear her play.
