Reading Habits Meme

I first saw this meme during Book Bloggers Appreciation Week last year and recently over at Chachic’s Book Nook. I’ve always wanted to do it, and since it was a slow weekend for reading, here it is:

1. Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snacks
Chips or cheetos. But then I’m always wiping my hands between pages…

2. What is your favorite drink while reading
Water, and if I’m sick of that watered down lemonade/Crystal Light

3. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
It horrifies me! I have no problem marking the few self-help, nonfiction books I own though.

4. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
Bookmark! Definitely. Folding/possibly wrinkling a page horrifies me. I have two beaten up artsy bookmarks but I think the disposable receipt almost works best.

5. Fiction, non-fiction, or both?
Mostly fiction but a little bit of non too.

6. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of a chapter, or can you stop anywhere?
The ideal is to get to the end of a chapter, but any pages I can read here or there keeps me happy. Plus most of the time I finish a chapter I just want to read another, and it starts the cycle. :)

7. Are you the type of person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you?
In my mind yes but I’ve never actually done it. I respect books in general too much to do that.

8. If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
No, but I wish I did. Maybe if I had an Iphone or something. I try really hard to remember it later and look it up then.

9. What are you currently reading?
Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness

10. What is the last book you bought?
Same as above. :)

11. Are you the type of person that reads one book at a time, or can you read more than one?
I prefer one but sometimes I try a bunch to determine my mood.

12. Do you have a favorite time/place to read?
In the afternoon during my son’s nap. I don’t know how I’ll cope when he grows out of it.

13. Do you prefer series books or stand alones?
If each book is better or just as good as the first, series. But sometimes stand alones are nice.

14. Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over?
Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn, or anything by Juliet Marillier.

15. How do you organize your books?
It’s minimal right now. :) Color, size, and mine v. hubby’s. Once I have more books to work with I’m sure it will be alphabetical.

I really get a kick out of reading these particularly types of memes. For some reason it makes me feel like I actually get some insight into other readers’ processes and habits. Very fun.

You know, I don’t even pay attention to chapters when I’m reading… I love these memes though. Fun to see how other people read.

  3. Holly says:

Angie, yes I’ve always thought this meme was more interesting and fun than some.

Emily, that’s funny. I’m always counting how many pages until the next chapter.

  4. Chachic says:

Yay, glad you decided to did this meme. I agree with the comments above that it’s always fun to see other people’s reading habits. We feel the same way about marking books and dog ears! Also, I love Cheetos. :)

  5. Kevin says:

Interesting meme. I’ve only marked one book in my life…War and Peace. Had to for the first one hundred pages.
